RESTORATION / REPAIR
Living with unresolved trauma can cause a lot of damage.
After clearing out a bunch of old patterns and old methods for getting my needs met,
I started working on repairing the damage done to me by living with unresolved trauma
for so long.
I started restoring myself to my original/natural state.
I began the restoration process by focusing on self-care.
I started by figuring out what my dosha is and adjusting my diet according to a few ayurvedic principles.
I also added in some daily practices. (Some I had done before. Some were new for me.)
Doshas
Vatta - Wind, Air & Space (Movement)
Vatta Trauma Response:
- constant axty & fear
- fear can turn paralyzing (affects movement)
- very hypervigilant sympathetic nervous system
- constantly scanning for danger
(even in what is supposed to be a safe environment) - insomnia
- adrenal depletion
- do not like change
- do not want anything new
- like stable sameness, security
Vatta Movement (Exercise):
- forward bends to alleviate anxiety
- hold poses slightly longer than usual
Vatta Food:
- wet (soups)
- hot or room temperature
- no cold drinks or food
- no gassy foods like cabbage (wind)
Pitta - Fire & Water (Transformation)
Pitta Trauma Response:
- hyper independent
- overachiever
- prove/show your worth & value to earn love & acceptance
Pitta Movement (Exercise):
because so fiery, do exercise that slows you down or is cooling
- swimming in a lake
- slow yoga, yin yoga
- hold poses 2-3 minutes
Pitta Food:
often stomach acid production issues
(acid production is either really high or really low)
- avoid spicy & sour foods
- drink Lime water to detox in morning
(instead of lemon water because it is easier to digest)
Kaffa - Earth & Water (Nourish/Growth)
Kaffa Trauma Response:
- hide - believe no one will harm you, if you stay unnoticed
- shrivel up (lack of growth)
- stay out of the limelight (out of the light)
- stay in the background of life
- afraid to take any kind of risk
Kaffa Movement (Exercise):
because so low energy, do vigorous, invigorating exercise
- work up a sweat
- get a good sweat going
- hot yoga, vinyasa, ashtanga
Kaffa Food - between Vatta & Pitta:
- wet (soups)
- warm beverages
- no spicy or sour foods
[use lime instead of lemon in water to detox in the morning]
